Women's Rights
My Women's Rights section discusses all the various ways women's rights are being limited. Women suffer from sexist remarks, wage inequality, and at times a general lack of respect. With the world still run by men, women's rights can be taken away in an instant. Until an official amendment is passed, women's rights will always be limited.
Equal Means Equal“If you really respected women in this country, women would be in the constitution” |
|
This artifact talks about how women are unfairly treated and how they do not have equal rights under the Constitution. It mentions how Alice Paul was a suffragist who fought for women's rights and gender equality on a federal level. The next artifact is a quote from Alice Paul, talking about how women believe they already have equality under the Constitution when they really don't.
“It is incredible to me that any woman should consider the fight for full equality won. It has just begun. There is hardly a field, economic or political, in which the natural and unaccustomed policy is not to ignore women…Unless women are prepared to fight politically they must be content to be ignored politically.” Read more about Alice Paul

Women Deserve Less Pay Than Men |
This artifact talks about how women are being paid less, and why some people believe they deserve to be paid less than men. The next artifact talks about how women in the workplace suffer from gender inequality and sexism. Both are discussing the topic of how women are being treated unfairly in the workplace, whether through salary or sexist commentary.
Labels Against Women
This artifact talks about how women arn't being treated fairly in the workplace, and how they deal with gender inequality. The next artifact is a song talking about how all women want is respect and the opportunity to be treated fairly and equally. This is a transition from how women receive unfair treatment to women asking for fair treatment.

Respect - Aretha Franklin
This artifact talks about how women want respect and to be treated fairly. The next artifact talks about the bill put in place that hopes to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women. Women want respect, and this bill is attempting to provide them with the equality they want.

Eliminating Discrimination
Against Women
"...any distinction, exclusion or restriction made on the basis of sex which has the effect or purpose of impairing or nullifying the recognition, enjoyment or exercise by women, irrespective of their marital status, on a basis of equality of men and women, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field." |
This artifact is a bill that, if adopted, would eliminate discrimination against women. The next artifact is about how even in modern times women still don't have all the rights they should. While that bill would eliminate discrimination, there are still places where women are at the mercy of men, men who fear the word "vagina."
Women and Rights in 2012: What We Stand to Lose and Why
"Just because you urinate standing up doesn't mean you're superior to us." "Gentlemen, you can be assured that those of us with vaginas will vote to uphold women's rights." |
This artifact talks about how men control women's rights, and they have the power to take them away. Women still don't have all of the rights they should, and in the next artifact, Conservative women's groups want to restrict women's rights even more.

"Feminist accounts of gender differences in wages and gender biases in schools were overstated and often inaccurate" (Pg. 3)
"CWA is a socially conservative interest group, mostly composed of evangelical Protestant women. It is concerned with public and private morality, opposes abortion and civil rights for homosexuals, and advocates prayer in schools." (Pg. 5)
"IWF, however, more closely matches the description of an economic conservative group, with its call for individuals’ self-sufficiency, limited federal social programs and business regulations, and increased private sector involvement in the provision of public goods and services." (Pg. 5)
"I think we have to recognize essential gender differences. I think that true feminism says that women are different than men, that women are just as good as men at whatever they try to do, and that women have to be inteligent about their choices of when they try to do what it is they are trying to do, and not turn their back on what is the most fulfilling and important role in society. That is, their roles as mother in a family." (Pg. 84)
